SFTP: upload files with FileZilla
Generate the SFTP password of your server and connect to its files from FileZilla or any SFTP client.
The Files tab edits your server from the browser. For big uploads, whole mod folders or tools that sync a directory, connect over SFTP with a desktop client such as FileZilla.
Get your access
- Open your server and go to Files.
- The SFTP access card shows the host, the port and the username of your server.
- Press generate (or regenerate) and copy the password right away. We show it only once and keep only a fingerprint of it. A new password stops the old one from working.
Connect with FileZilla
- In FileZilla open File → Site Manager → New site.
- Protocol:
SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol. - Host and Port: the ones on the card.
- Logon Type:
Normal. User: the username on the card. Password: the one you copied. - Press Connect. The first time, FileZilla asks whether to trust the server's key: tick Always trust this host and accept.
The right pane is your server: server.properties, the world folder, plugins and mods. Drag files across to upload or download them.
Plugins, mods and add-ons
- Minecraft Java loads plugins (
.jar) only on the Paper template and mods (.jar) only on Fabric or Forge. Vanilla ignores them: change the template in Settings before you upload. - Minecraft Bedrock uses add-ons (
.mcpackor.mcaddon). A.jardoes nothing on a Bedrock server, and an add-on does nothing on a Java server. - Do not stop or restart the server while a file is still uploading: the upload is cut and the file is lost.
Good to know
- Stop the server before you replace a world or a file the game is using.
- A server stopped for a long time is stored in the cloud: start it first, then connect.
- If your server moves to another node, the host changes. The card always shows the current one.
- Ten wrong passwords lock the username for 15 minutes.
