Host a RuneScape: Dragonwilds server
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the co-op survival game from Jagex set on Ashenfall, the forgotten continent where dragons have awoken. It left Early Access with its 1.0 release on 15 September 2026. A dedicated server keeps your world running when the host logs off, so up to six players can gather, build and train their skills on their own schedule. 1up runs the official Linux dedicated server from Jagex, downloaded from Steam and brought to the newest build every time the server starts.
The world lives on its own volume, so every building, chest and skill level survives restarts and updates. The server needs one thing from you: your Dragonwilds Player ID, which makes you its owner. The owner can ban and unban anyone, and nobody else gets admin rights unless you hand out the admin password.
From an empty panel to your first camp
- Open the panel, pick RuneScape: Dragonwilds and choose a plan with at least the memory the wizard asks for.
- In the game, open Settings, scroll to the very bottom and copy your Player ID with the copy button.
- Paste the Player ID into the wizard and set a world password if only your friends should get in.
- Press start and follow the console: the first boot downloads about 2 GB, then the world is ready in under a minute.
- In the game, open Worlds, go to the Public tab and search for the exact name of your server; capital letters count.
Joining from the game
Players find the world in the Public tab of the Worlds screen by its exact name, the server name you chose when you created it. The Direct tab also takes the address shown on your panel. Every player needs the same game version as the server, so restart the server after a patch to pull the new build.
Rules you can change from the panel
The Game tab holds your Player ID, the world password and the admin password. The world password overrides any password stored in the save; leave it empty for an open world. Changes apply at the next restart, because the server rewrites its settings file while it runs.
How much RAM Dragonwilds needs
Jagex asks for 2 GB plus 1 GB per player. An empty world holds about 1 GB, so the server starts at 4 GB for a small group, and a full group of six is comfortable on 8 GB. The download and the saves fit in 12 GB of disk, with room for the next update.
Running the server as the owner
Dragonwilds has no remote console, so moderation happens in the game. As the owner, open Pause, Settings, Server Management to ban or unban any player, online or not. Anyone who types the admin password there becomes an admin who can ban players who are online but cannot unban them. The admin password starts as a random secret nobody sees; set your own in the Game tab only if you want to share it.
If something goes wrong
If the console says the Player ID is missing, paste it in the Game tab and start again. A world missing from the Public tab usually means the name was typed with other capital letters, or the game and the server are on different versions; restart the server after a patch. The server saves the world on its own timer and not when it stops, so give it a few minutes after a big build before you stop it.
