Nodes ready · start the first one
Icarus is in beta: you can create your server already, but we are still tuning its image and it may change without notice.
Host an Icarus server
Icarus drops prospectors from an orbital station onto a planet whose terraforming went wrong, and the Olympus open world is the one map where nothing expires: forests, red deserts and frozen peaks wait under storms that flatten weak walls, while bears, wolves and worse hunt anyone who strays from the base. RocketWerkz publishes the dedicated server only for Windows, so on our nodes it runs inside a compatibility layer with a virtual screen and Steam patches it on every start.
The whole outpost, from the first wooden shack to the last electric furnace, lives in one prospect file named Olympus. The game writes it every five minutes while somebody plays and when a prospector heads back to orbit, and our backups copy the prospect folder without the 10 GB game.
From an empty panel to your first drop
- In the panel, choose Icarus and a plan of at least 6 GB.
- Pick a difficulty: Easy forgives mistakes, Medium is the balance the studio tuned, Hard and Extreme hit back with tougher creatures and harsher weather.
- Set the number of slots, up to eight, a join password if the group is private and an admin password for yourself.
- Start the server. The first boot fetches about 10 GB and then raises Olympus, so give it several minutes.
- When the console says the server is now empty, the world is loaded and waiting for its first prospector.
Getting your group onto the planet
Each player opens Play, then Join, and looks under the dedicated servers list for the server name you chose. Searching by name is the reliable route, since the game's direct address field often fails to find dedicated hosts. With a join password, the game asks for it before the drop. Everyone lands with the character they already own, and the station keeps their talents and blueprints between visits.
What you can tune from the panel
Difficulty is read only once, when the server builds Olympus from nothing; after that the world keeps it, and the Worlds tab is the place to wipe and start over. Slots, the join password and the admin password are written into the server settings on every start, so a change applies after one restart.
How much RAM Icarus needs
With Olympus loaded and nobody online, the server held about 3.5 GB in our measurements. Every prospector who wanders off streams more terrain, creatures and buildings into memory, which is why the floor is 6 GB and we suggest 8 GB for a full group of eight. The 16 GB of disk fits the 10 GB game, the compatibility layer and a growing prospect.
Taking charge as the owner
Icarus listens for admin commands only in its own chat, so the panel console shows the server log rather than accepting input. In the game, type /AdminLogin followed by your admin password; from then on /KickPlayer, /BanPlayer and /AdminSay work for you until you leave. Bans are kept with the server data and travel in our backups.
When the drop does not go to plan
A server missing from the list usually means Olympus has not finished loading: wait for the empty-server line in the console and refresh. A version warning means the game patched before the server did, and a restart pulls the update. If the first start ends early, read the last red line; a disk that fills during the large download is the usual cause.
