Terraria 1.4.5 Server: What Changed for Hosts
Terraria 1.4.5 «Bigger and Boulder» changed more for servers than the trailer shows: config fixes, new seeds, world compatibility, crossplay, TShock and tModLoader.

Terraria 1.4.5, «Bigger and Boulder», came out on 27 January 2026, and the hotfixes that followed reached 1.4.5.8 in August. For a Terraria 1.4.5 server it means config fixes, combinable seeds, worlds that cannot go back to tModLoader and a new major TShock. Here is what changed and how our free Terraria server handles it.
To set one up from scratch, see our free Terraria server guide.
- Version: the current dedicated server is 1.4.5.8, a hotfix from 23 August 2026.
- Config: no new
serverconfig.txtkeys, butlanguage, autocreateandworldnow behave. - Worlds: older worlds open in 1.4.5; a 1.4.5 world cannot be used in current tModLoader.
- TShock: version 6.2.1 supports 1.4.5.8. tModLoader: stable is still on 1.4.4.
- Crossplay: PC, mobile and servers already meet on the same version; consoles come with 1.4.6.
1. Release dates and the server download
Re-Logic announced the date on 14 January and released 1.4.5 on 27 January 2026 on PC, console and mobile at once, except the Chinese mobile edition. The launch post linked the 1.4.5.0 dedicated server and reminded players that "the latest version is always located at the bottom of Terraria.org".
Hotfixes followed through the spring. The big one, 1.4.5.7, landed on PC on 19 August with a balance pass, and 1.4.5.8 fixed a few of its issues on 23 August. The dedicated server build to run today is terraria-server-1458.zip. Every client must be on the same version as the server.
2. What changed in the server itself
The full 1.4.5.0 changelog on the wiki is long, but the server lines are few:
- Servers now save the world when the last player leaves.
- The
languageoption in the server configuration works; before 1.4.5 it was ignored. autocreateworks even when it is not in the expected order in the file.- The
worldargument no longer crashes the server when the world does not exist andautocreateis set. - A server no longer crashes when it loads a world from a newer version.
- Dead players can spectate the others, and
/bossdamagein chat shows who dealt how much in the last boss fight.
The 1.4.5.7 notes add a multiplayer block: empty servers only start updating once a client fully connects, slots are no longer reserved for clients that connect and drop, boss bags are no longer deleted by the server, and NPC damage desyncs on high-latency servers are reduced.
The wiki's server page lists no new configuration keys for 1.4.5, so an existing serverconfig.txt keeps working. Our Terraria server config guide explains every key.
3. Seeds: Skyblock, combinations and secret seeds
World creation is where 1.4.5 changed the most. Special seeds can be combined, a new seed menu lists them, and identical worlds with special seeds enabled can now be recreated from a seed. Two additions matter for servers:
- Skyblock: you start on a small sky island, with a Shimmer island in the distance. Its seed is
skyblock. - Secret world seeds: 37 of them, such as "royale with cheese", which gives each team its own spawn, or "jingle all the way" for endless Christmas. You unlock each by typing it in the seed field.
1.4.5.5 stopped the dedicated server's world creation menu from asking about special seeds after you paste a copied seed code. The seed is only read when a world is created, so set it before the first start.
4. World compatibility: forward yes, back no
A vanilla world from 1.4.4 or earlier opens in 1.4.5; the changelog even fixes an incompatibility with 1.0.6.1 saves. Going back is the problem. The tModLoader team repeated in every monthly report from February to April that "Terraria players and worlds played on the 1.4.5 update can not be migrated to and used on current tModLoader".
In practice: keep a vanilla 1.4.5 world and a tModLoader world on separate servers, and back up a world before you open it in a newer version.
5. TShock and tModLoader on 1.4.5
TShock needed a major version. TShock 6.0, released on 8 March 2026, added "support for .NET 9 and the Terraria 1.4.5 series", starting with 1.4.5.5. TShock 6.2.1, from 27 September, supports 1.4.5.8. Plugins built for TShock 5 should be checked for a version 6 build before you update. Our TShock commands guide covers the commands themselves.
tModLoader is still on Terraria 1.4.4 content. Its 1.4.5 update page says the port "will take many months yet" and that 1.4.4 mods and tModLoader will stay available as a legacy version. The September report says the team merged the 1.4.5.8 changes into its preview branch, and anyone can test it on the 1.4.5-dev beta branch on Steam. We will follow it in an upcoming monthly tModLoader status post.
6. Crossplay after 1.4.5
Crossplay "has been live on mobile, PC and server for many years", as DR Studios put it in the February State of the Game: type the server's address and port into any of those clients, on the same version. Consoles get the same address join in 1.4.6, "Phase One of Crossplay"; the September report says it is getting its finishing touches, with no date. Our Terraria crossplay server guide shows how phones join today.
7. Terraria 1.4.5 on 1up
On our Terraria page a new server runs vanilla 1.4.5.8 by default, or tModLoader v2026.07.3.0, the stable 1.4.4 release, if you pick that template:
- Free plan: 1 server, 4 slots, 2 GB RAM and 6 GB disk, no backups and no mod uploads.
- Server language in the Game tab writes the
languagekey that 1.4.5 fixed. - Seed (new worlds only) offers Skyblock and the classic special seeds as featured picks; secret seeds can be typed in.
- Cheat protection writes
secure=1. UPnP is off because the port is already open to players. - Both templates use the same world file, so make a separate server for tModLoader rather than switching an existing vanilla world.
- Changing the version later needs a backup slot, so on Free the version you pick at creation is the one you keep.
Checked against Re-Logic's Steam announcements, the official wiki's 1.4.5 changelogs and the TShock and tModLoader repositories, and against the servers our panel runs, Terraria 1.4.5.8 and tModLoader v2026.07.3.0, on 2026-10-07.
