Is tModLoader updated for 1.4.5? No. As of 25 October 2026, the port is still in development: the stable tModLoader release, v2026.08.3.0 from 1 October, runs Terraria 1.4.4 content, while vanilla Terraria is on 1.4.5.8. This page tracks the port every month and explains how to keep playing modded on a Terraria server meanwhile.

  • Status: not released. Stable tModLoader is v2026.08.3.0, built on Terraria 1.4.4.
  • Release date: none. The team is "still not ready to set a release date".
  • Testing: a 1.4.5-dev beta branch on Steam, mainly for contributors, with 1.4.5.8 merged.
  • Worlds: a world played on vanilla 1.4.5 cannot be moved to current tModLoader.
  • Modded now: stay on stable tModLoader 1.4.4 and its mods; they remain available as a legacy version.

1. What is the latest version of tModLoader?

As of 25 October 2026, the latest stable tModLoader is v2026.08.3.0, released on 1 October 2026, and the latest preview is v2026.09.2.1, from the same day. Both are «1.4.4» builds: no public tModLoader release runs Terraria 1.4.5 content yet.

The tModLoader number is not the Terraria number. v2026.08.3.0 names the development cycle it was prepared in, not the game version, which is why GitHub labels it «1.4.4-refs/heads/stable». In 2026 the team has shipped a stable release at the start of every month, each with a Steam announcement that also reports on the 1.4.5 port. On our panel the tModLoader template runs v2026.08.3.0 and also offers v2026.07.3.0.

2. Status in October 2026

tModLoader previewv2026.09.2.11 October 20261.4.4
tModLoader 1.4.5-devchanges dailyongoing1.4.5.8

The first three rows come from the tModLoader releases on GitHub, where every stable and preview build is still named "1.4.4-refs/heads/stable" or "1.4.4-refs/heads/preview". Vanilla 1.4.5.8 is the hotfix of 23 August.

The tModLoader October 2026 Stable Update says progress on the 1.4.5 development branch "is going smoothly", and that the 1.4.5.8 hotfix "needed to be integrated" and now is: "the development build now contains all the new changes". The first line of its 1.4.5 changelog is simply "Update to 1.4.5.8".

3. What the tModLoader team has said about the date

There is no date, and the team says so plainly every month:

The August Stable Update also explains the order of events. Stable 1.4.4 keeps getting regular updates "until we are ready to 'Preview' the 1.4.5 beta build to modders". So the next milestone to watch for is that preview for modders, not a release for players. Modders then get "ample opportunity to update their mods to v1.4.5 before it is officially released".

The status will not change between monthly posts without an announcement: news on 1.4.5 support is "delivered in monthly news announcements on Steam", usually on the 1st, when the stable release goes out.

4. Can I test tModLoader 1.4.5 today?

Yes, with care. The 1.4.5 Update Information page explains how to join the 1.4.5-dev beta branch of tModLoader on Steam, and lists the branch password there. Before you switch, read what the team says about it:

  • The branch "updates with each commit", so it changes daily.
  • The build "is mainly for contributors"; regular users should not expect it to be playable or stable.
  • Mods cannot be published for 1.4.5 yet: "Do not attempt to publish updates to mods on 1.4.5 yet, that is not yet implemented."

In practice the dev branch is a place to report bugs, not to run a modded playthrough with friends. Most of your mods are not there, and a world started on it may not survive the next commit. A server for your group should stay on stable.

5. Worlds and characters: what moves where

Three rules cover every case we have seen:

  1. A vanilla 1.4.5 world does not go to current tModLoader. In its February to April reports, the tModLoader team wrote that "Terraria players and worlds played on the 1.4.5 update can not be migrated to and used on current tModLoader" (February State of the Game).
  2. A tModLoader 1.4.4 world should carry over to tModLoader 1.4.5, but it is not promised. The team's answer in the August FAQ is that "We aim to maintain backwards compatibility in tModLoader and encourage modders to keep this in mind". Whether a modded world survives also depends on each mod being ported.
  3. Mods will not just work. To "Will all of my mods still work on v1.4.5 immediately?", the same FAQ answers that "the short answer to this is 'no'". Maintained mods should be available "once it has a stable release for players".

Keep a copy of your tModLoader world before you try any 1.4.5 build, and keep a vanilla 1.4.5 world and a modded world on separate servers.

6. How to play modded Terraria now

Stable tModLoader 1.4.4 is not going away. The August FAQ says 1.4.4 mods and tModLoader "will continue to exist and be available for players both during porting and after", supported "as a Legacy version like 1.3 and 1.4.3". The October release still fixed things for multiplayer, such as a "multiplayer autosave crash" and "a network message length issue that could cause servers stalls".

On 1up, Terraria servers run two templates:

TemplateVersion todayPlansMod uploads
Vanilla (recommended)Terraria 1.4.5.8Free and upNo
tModLoaderv2026.08.3.0 (v2026.07.3.0 also offered)Free and upStarter and up

With the tModLoader template, the Plugins tab of the panel shows a tModLoader mods section: Upload .tmod puts a mod (up to 160 MB) in the server's mods folder, and each mod has a switch that writes it into enabled.json, the file tModLoader reads at start. Changes apply on the next restart. Uploading mods needs Starter (€5 a month: 10 slots, 4 GB RAM, 3 backups) or a bigger plan; see the pricing page. On Free (4 slots, 2 GB RAM) the template runs with no extra mods.

Every player needs tModLoader from Steam on the same version as the server and the same mods. Our TShock commands guide and Terraria server config guide cover the vanilla side. Our guide to the best tModLoader mods for multiplayer covers which mods to pick.

7. Outlook: what to watch for

  • The 1st of each month. The tModLoader stable release and its Steam post, with a 1.4.5 progress section. We update this page after each one.
  • A "Preview" for modders. The signal that 1.4.4 content updates are winding down and that mod authors can start porting.
  • Terraria 1.4.6. Re-Logic says the next update is Crossplay Phase One, which brings address join to consoles. Consoles do not run tModLoader, so 1.4.6 does not change modded play, but each Terraria update has to be merged into the dev branch too, as 1.4.5.8 was.

When tModLoader 1.4.5 reaches stable, we will add it as a version of the tModLoader template and say so here.

Tested on Terraria 1.4.5.8 and tModLoader v2026.08.3.0, the versions our panel runs, on 2026-10-13 and again on 2026-10-25 (1up v1.39.1), against the tModLoader GitHub releases, its 1.4.5 Update Information issue and the Steam announcements of Re-Logic and the tModLoader team.

Change log

  • 2026-10-25: new section «What is the latest version of tModLoader?» (no new release since 1 October); Starter figures updated from the live plans list.
  • 2026-10-13: first version, October 2026 status (stable v2026.08.3.0, 1.4.5.8 merged into 1.4.5-dev).
