A Terraria crossplay server is a dedicated server that PC and mobile players join together. It works today because both run the same 1.4.5.8 code, which the developers confirm. Consoles are not in yet: they arrive with Crossplay Phase One, planned as 1.4.6. Here is what works, how to set it up and what is still unconfirmed.

New to servers? Our [free Terraria server guide](https://1up-servers.com/en/blog/free-terraria-server/) covers the full setup first. If you host with us, everything below applies to your [Terraria server](https://1up-servers.com/en/terraria/) on the Vanilla template.

- **PC + Android + iOS:** yes, on a vanilla dedicated server, as long as everyone runs the same version (1.4.5.8 today).
- **Xbox, PlayStation, Switch:** not yet. Re-Logic says Crossplay Phase One (1.4.6) brings them in, with no release date.
- **Setup:** there is no crossplay switch. Run the vanilla server, open TCP 7777 (or use the port your host gives you) and share IP and port.
- **tModLoader:** PC only, and its stable build runs 1.4.4.9 content, so mobile players cannot join a modded server.

## 1. Current state: which platforms play together

The [official wiki's multiplayer page](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Multiplayer) is blunt about the general rule: players on different platforms cannot play multiplayer together, except Android and iOS, which share one mobile version. Then it adds the exception that makes this guide possible: desktop and mobile can meet on a dedicated server "due to the perfect parity", which the wiki calls "likely unintentional".

The developers see it the other way round. In the [February 2026 State of the Game](https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/terraria-state-of-the-game-february-2026.148264/), DR Studios, who make the mobile and console versions, explain that mobile was rebuilt on the PC source code in 2019, so it got crossplay compatibility "for free". In their words: "Assuming your PC, dedicated server and mobile are all on the same release version, many of you will have been enjoying crossplay since this release." They call this IP-and-port crossplay Phase 1 and say it is "already available on PC, server and mobile".

Consoles share that code too, but there crossplay needs approval from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.

| Platform | Joins a PC dedicated server today? | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| PC (Windows, macOS, Linux) | Yes | [Multiplayer](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Multiplayer) |
| Android and iOS | Yes, same version as the server | [State of the Game, Feb 2026](https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/terraria-state-of-the-game-february-2026.148264/) |
| Xbox and PlayStation | No, waiting for Phase One (1.4.6) | [State of the Game, Sep 2026](https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/terraria-state-of-the-game-september-2026.151999/) |
| Nintendo Switch | No, waiting for Phase One (1.4.6) | same |

DR Studios also say that PC and mobile can play together on a home network, but that remote crossplay without a server "is temperamental and complex to set up reliably", because it depends on UPnP and your router. A dedicated server avoids that: it has a fixed address and stays up when the host leaves.

## 2. Installation: one vanilla server, one version

Nothing special has to be switched on. The official `serverconfig.txt` has no crossplay key (every key is in our [Terraria server config guide](https://1up-servers.com/en/blog/terraria-server-config/)), so crossplay comes down to two things: the server software and the version.

**Use the vanilla dedicated server.** Download it from [terraria.org](https://terraria.org/); today the newest build there is `terraria-server-1458.zip`, version 1.4.5.8. On Linux it runs as `TerrariaServer.bin.x86_64`, on Windows as `TerrariaServer.exe` ([Server](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Server) page).

**Match the versions.** This is where most failed joins come from. The [1.4.5.8 release post](https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/150939/) gives the dates per platform:

| Build | PC and server | Mobile | Xbox / PlayStation | Switch |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1.4.5.8 | 23 Aug 2026 | 3 Sep 2026 | 3 Sep 2026 | 8 Sep 2026 |
| 1.4.5.8.1 | none | 17 Sep 2026 | 17 Sep 2026 | 22 Sep 2026 |

So PC and the server stop at 1.4.5.8, while phones received a 1.4.5.8.1 follow-up patch with bug fixes, several of them for multiplayer. Re-Logic has not said whether that patch changes network compatibility, and there is no 1.4.5.8.1 server to pair it with. Update the app on every phone, and if a player is refused with "You are not using the same version as this server.", compare versions first.

**Open the port.** The server listens on TCP 7777. At home, forward that port on your router; a hosted server gives you its own address and port.

**Join from each device:**

1. On PC, open **Multiplayer** → **Join via IP**, pick a character and type the address and port ([setup guide](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Guide:Setting_up_a_Terraria_server)).
2. On mobile, open **Multiplayer** and use the remote server list: DR Studios describe it as "a list of known servers on the internet that you have previously connected to", where you add a server by IP and port. The wiki still calls it the **Online** menu.
3. Set a password if the world is not meant for strangers; every platform types the same one.

**On 1up**, choose the Vanilla template when you create the server. It installs the 1.4.5.8 dedicated server from terraria.org, the same build PC players run. The panel shows the address as `yourserver.play.1up-servers.com:30123` (your own name and port): on a phone, type the part before the colon in the IP field and the number after it in the port field. The Free plan takes up to 4 players, which is enough for a mixed PC and phone group.

Two settings matter for a mixed group. **Server language** starts in the language of your account (Spanish account, `es-ES` server), and only changes the console and the texts the server writes itself; each player still sees the game in their own client language. **Cheat protection** is on for new servers and makes Terraria refuse clients that send impossible data.

## 3. Versions: Vanilla 1.4.5.8 or tModLoader

Our Terraria servers offer two templates, and only one of them works for crossplay:

| Template | Version | Game content | Who can join |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Vanilla | 1.4.5.8 | Terraria 1.4.5 "Bigger and Boulder" | PC and mobile on 1.4.5.8 |
| tModLoader | v2026.07.3.0 | Terraria 1.4.4.9 | tModLoader on PC only |

[tModLoader](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1281930/tModLoader/) is a free Steam app for Windows, macOS and Linux, and it needs Terraria owned on Steam (GOG players install it by hand, per the [player guide](https://github.com/tModLoader/tModLoader/wiki/tModLoader-guide-for-players)). It has no mobile or console release. Its stable build is "currently based on Terraria v1.4.4.9 content", so even without mods a 1.4.5.8 phone could not match its version. The tModLoader team wrote in the [September 2026 State of the Game](https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/terraria-state-of-the-game-september-2026.151999/) that the work towards tModLoader for 1.4.5 "will take many months still".

TShock 6.2.1 does target 1.4.5.8 (see our [TShock commands cheat sheet](https://1up-servers.com/en/blog/tshock-commands/)), but we have not tested phones against it and do not offer it as a template.

## 4. What 1.4.6 brings (unconfirmed)

Everything in this section comes from Re-Logic and DR Studios posts. None of it has a date, and plans can change.

- **1.4.6 is the Crossplay Phase One update.** The [1.4.5.8 release post](https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/150939/) says "next up should be the long-awaited Crossplay Phase One update (1.4.6)!".
- **Phase One is close but not out.** On 24 September 2026, Re-Logic wrote that "the finishing touches are being put on Crossplay Phase One as we speak" and that submission should be ready "in the near future". As of 5 October 2026 it has not shipped; consoles are on 1.4.5.8.1.
- **What Phase One adds on consoles**, per the February post: joining any session by IP address and port, a **Local** section listing games on your home network, the **Remote** list of internet servers ("usually dedicated servers that you host yourself or have rented") and UPnP when hosting.
- **Phase Two** aims at sharing "session ID or join code with any player on any platform on any network". No timing beyond "as soon as possible behind Phase One", with "a little something for everyone in between".
- **Not announced:** cross-progression, cross-saves and mod support. DR Studios only say they "hope to get onto all that in good time".

In practice: once Phase One ships, console players should be able to join a dedicated server by IP and port if everyone, the server included, runs the same version. We will update this guide when Re-Logic publishes the patch notes.

## Frequently asked questions

Yes, on a dedicated server. PC, Android and iOS players can join the same vanilla server as long as they all run the same version as the server, 1.4.5.8 today.
