# Satisfactory Dedicated Server: Setup, Ports, Saves and Hosting

Run a Satisfactory dedicated server for your group: what it needs, the two ports of 1.1+, claiming, passwords, uploading your save, player count and hosting.

A Satisfactory dedicated server keeps your factory running while nobody is hosting: every belt, train and power plant stays online, and friends join whenever they want. This guide covers self-hosting, our [Satisfactory server hosting](https://1up-servers.com/en/satisfactory/), the two ports, claiming, passwords, your save and how many players a server really handles.

- **Version:** the game is on update 1.2; the latest patch is v1.2.4.1, from 12 October 2026. The server installs the current build on every start.
- **What it needs:** 8 GB of RAM at least, 16 GB for big factories or more than four players. Windows or Linux, never consoles.
- **Ports:** 7777 on TCP and UDP plus 8888 on TCP since patch 1.1.
- **Joining:** Server Manager → Add Server, with the address and the port. Steam and Epic players play together.
- **On 1up:** 24/7 from the Pro plan (€10/month, 8 GB of RAM). On Free it runs with the hourglass at ×3.5, a way to try it rather than to live in it.

If your group also plays Factorio, our [Factorio dedicated server guide](https://1up-servers.com/en/blog/factorio-dedicated-server/) follows the same route for Wube's headless server.

## 1. What a Satisfactory dedicated server needs

Coffee Stain ships the dedicated server as a free download: SteamCMD app **1690800**, or the Epic Games launcher. Per the [dedicated servers page of the official wiki](https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_servers):

- **Systems:** 64-bit Windows 10, 11 or Server 2016 to 2022, or a 64-bit Linux such as Debian or Ubuntu. No ARM.
- **RAM:** 8 GB minimum; 16 GB "may be recommended for larger saves or to host more than 4 players".
- **Consoles:** dedicated servers are "not available for the console release, without any plan to introduce the support later". This guide is for PC players on Steam or Epic.
- **Store mix:** Steam and Epic clients can join the same server, whichever store the server files came from.

Your three options:

- **Host from the game:** a session on the host's PC. Free, but the factory stops when the host quits.
- **Self-host the dedicated server:** free software, but a machine with 8 to 16 GB to spare stays on, and you forward the ports and update it yourself.
- **A hosted Satisfactory server:** the factory runs in a data centre and you manage it from a web panel. That is what we sell.

## 2. Create a Satisfactory server on 1up

1. Create an account and press **Create server**.
2. Choose **Satisfactory**. The wizard proposes the plans with enough memory: Pro (8 GB), Studio (16 GB) and Ultra (32 GB) keep it online 24/7. On Free the server gets the 8 GB it needs, but your free time runs 3.5 times faster (the hourglass, shown before you create it).
3. Pick a region, London or Paris. The wizard measures your ping and suggests the nearest one.
4. When the server is online, the **Overview** shows the address and the port. Our port is not 7777, so copy both from the panel.

The image installs the current Satisfactory build through SteamCMD when the server starts, so a game update only needs a restart.

**Shortcut: on 1up it takes three clicks**

## 3. Claiming and passwords

A fresh Satisfactory server has to be claimed before it can start a game. On a self-hosted server you do that from the game: open the **Server Manager** in the main menu, add the server, give it a name and set the administrator password, as the [wiki](https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_servers) describes. The admin password limits "Save Game loading, Server Options and New Game creation"; a player password is off by default.

On 1up the server claims itself on the first start through the game's HTTPS API, so you never see the claim screen. Set the passwords in the **Game** tab before you connect:

| Setting on 1up | What it does | Rules | Default |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Server name** | The name in the Server Manager | Up to 96 characters | Your server's name |
| **Server password** | Players type it to join | 5 to 64 characters; empty for none | None |
| **Admin password** | Logs you in as administrator in the Server Manager | 5 to 64 characters | None |
| **Max players** | The player cap | 1 to 16, within your plan's slots | 4 |

Each change applies on the next restart. Set the **Admin password** first: it is the password you type in the game to create a session or load a save. If you change it later, the server takes the new one at the next start.

## 4. Join from the Server Manager

1. In Satisfactory, open **Server Manager** → **Add Server**.
2. Type the address and the port from our Overview and confirm.
3. Log in with the admin password. The server is listed with the name you set.
4. Create a new game or load a save (section 5), then send your friends the address, the port and the server password.

Patch 1.1 made a second port mandatory. The [wiki](https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_servers) lists **7777** on TCP and UDP (the TCP side also carries the HTTPS API) and **8888** on TCP for reliable messages. If the 8888 port is not forwarded, players "can initiate a connection" but get stuck loading. On 1up the server gets its public ports already open, so there is nothing to forward. Self-hosting? Forward both, and check that no firewall blocks the TCP side.

## 5. Move your single-player save to the server

You do not need to start from scratch. The [wiki](https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_servers) explains that local saves are uploaded through the **Manage Saves** tab of the server in the Server Manager:

1. Log in to the server as admin in the Server Manager.
2. Open **Manage Saves** and upload the save from your PC.
3. Load it. Everyone who joins plays in that factory.

The server keeps its saves under `.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server` in its home folder. On 1up our backups include that folder, and Pro keeps up to 5 of them (Studio 10, Ultra 20). A save made on a newer game version will not load on an older server, so keep the game and the server on the same patch.

## 6. Autosave, autopause and the console

Three server options matter for an always-on factory, all described on the [wiki](https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_servers):

- **Auto Pause:** pauses the game when no player is connected.
- **Auto-Save on Player Disconnect:** saves when someone leaves.
- **Autosave interval:** 300 seconds by default, per the wiki's [configuration files page](https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_servers/Configuration_files). Shorter intervals mean a small hitch more often.

You can change them in the Server Manager, or from our **Console**, which sends them to the game's API:

| Console command | Effect |
| --- | --- |
| `save <name>` | Saves the game now under that name |
| `autopause True` / `False` | Turns Auto Pause on or off |
| `autosaveondisconnect True` / `False` | Saves when a player disconnects |
| `autosaveinterval 600` | Autosave every 300, 600, 900, 1200, 1800 or 3600 seconds |
| `state`, `settings` | Show the server state and its options |

Type `save` before a big rebuild, and stop the server from the panel rather than killing it: the stop goes through the game's own shutdown.

## 7. How many players, and how much RAM

Satisfactory is tuned for four. The wiki warns that the server "is tuned to be most performant with the default player cap of four", and raising it "may have negative effects on server stability, performance, and resource usage". Up to 127 players are "theoretically possible, but not practically". On 1up the panel caps it at 16.

RAM grows with the factory, not only with players. 8 GB loads a new world; a late-game save with thousands of machines and a big train network wants the 16 GB the wiki recommends. Pro gives the server 8 GB, Studio 16 GB and Ultra 32 GB. If the server starts stopping with out-of-memory errors as the factory grows, it is time for a plan with more RAM.

## 8. Satisfactory server hosting on 1up: what you get

Prices come from [our pricing page](https://1up-servers.com/en/pricing/):

- **Free:** 1 server and up to 4 players, with the hourglass at ×3.5 because the game needs 8 GB. No backups. Good to test the setup with your group.
- **Pro (€10/month):** 8 GB of RAM, 60 GB of disk, 5 backups, online 24/7. Enough for a new world and a small group.
- **Studio (€20/month):** 16 GB of RAM, the amount the wiki recommends for larger saves, 80 GB of disk and 10 backups.
- **Ultra (€50/month):** 32 GB of RAM for very large factories or a larger group.

Paid plans are refunded on request within 3 days.

Casual (2 GB) and Starter (4 GB) do not have enough memory for Satisfactory, so the wizard does not offer them. Our [Palworld server hosting](https://1up-servers.com/en/palworld/) has the same 8 GB floor and also runs 24/7 from Pro. If you are weighing a free server against a paid one, our comparison of [free and paid game server hosting](https://1up-servers.com/en/blog/free-vs-paid-game-server-hosting/) sets out the trade-offs, and our list of [co-op games to host](https://1up-servers.com/en/blog/best-co-op-survival-games-to-host/) has more ideas for the group.

Tested on Satisfactory v1.2.4.1, 2026-10-20: settings, claim, ports and console checked against our image and panel on 1up v1.9.2; we have not yet joined one of our Satisfactory servers from a game client.

**Change log**

- 2026-10-20: first version, after patch v1.2.4.1.
- 2026-10-26: Satisfactory runs 24/7 from Pro (€10, 8 GB); current Studio and Ultra figures.

## Frequently asked questions

At least 8 GB. The official wiki recommends 16 GB for larger saves or more than four players, because every machine of the factory is simulated on the server.
