# Minecraft Java Bedrock Crossplay with Geyser and Floodgate

Let Bedrock players on phones, tablets and Windows join your Java server: how Geyser and Floodgate work, the Java version they need, the Bedrock port and the whitelist.

Minecraft Java Bedrock crossplay needs two pieces on the Java server: Geyser, which translates between the two editions, and Floodgate, which lets Bedrock players in without a Java account. Run the server on Java 26.2, give Bedrock players the separate UDP port, and whitelist them with a dot before their gamertag.

Everything below works on our [Minecraft Java server](https://1up-servers.com/en/minecraft-java-edition/) from the panel, or on a server you run yourself. If you have no server yet, start with our [free Minecraft server guide](https://1up-servers.com/en/blog/how-to-make-a-free-minecraft-server/).

- **Pieces:** [Geyser](https://geysermc.org/wiki/geyser/setup/) plus [Floodgate](https://geysermc.org/wiki/floodgate/), on Paper or Fabric. Vanilla and Forge cannot load them.
- **Version:** Geyser supports Java 26.2 today. Pick 26.2 or older, not 26.3.
- **Port:** Bedrock connects over UDP to Geyser's port, not to the Java port. On 1up it is a port of its own, shown once the server starts.
- **Who can join:** phones, tablets and Windows PCs with the address and port. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch cannot add a server by address.
- **Whitelist:** Bedrock names carry a dot, so `Gamer Tag` becomes `.Gamer_Tag`.

## 1. How it works

A Bedrock client cannot speak the Java protocol. Geyser sits in the middle: Bedrock players connect to it, and it joins the Java server on their behalf. Its [setup page](https://geysermc.org/wiki/geyser/setup/) lists it as a plugin for Paper and Spigot, a mod for Fabric and NeoForge, a proxy plugin or a standalone program. On a single server the plugin or mod is the simple choice.

On its own, Geyser still asks each Bedrock player to log in to a Java account. [Floodgate](https://geysermc.org/wiki/floodgate/) removes that step: it is the plugin that lets players "join Minecraft: Java Edition servers with Minecraft: Bedrock accounts without needing a paid Minecraft: Java Edition account". That is why you install both.

The version is where most setups fail. Geyser's [supported versions page](https://geysermc.org/wiki/geyser/supported-versions/), read on 6 October 2026, says: "Geyser currently supports Minecraft Bedrock 26.30-26.52 and Minecraft Java 26.2." It also explains that "Geyser emulates a 26.2 client, so a Java server must accept users using that version", and that "Geyser-Fabric and Geyser-NeoForge only support the latest version of Minecraft: Java edition". The same page points to ViaVersion for servers on other versions.

Some things do not translate. Geyser's [current limitations](https://geysermc.org/wiki/geyser/current-limitations/) include telling left and right clicks apart in inventories, the glowing effect, custom enchantments and clickable links in chat. Plain survival plays fine; tell Bedrock friends that a few Java mechanics will look different.

## 2. Installation

### On 1up

1. **Create a Java server on Paper or Fabric.** Paper if you want plugins, Fabric if you want mods. The bridge installs the Geyser and Floodgate build made for your loader and never switches the loader for you.
2. **Pick version 26.2.** The wizard suggests 26.3, the newest release, and Geyser does not run on it yet. In our test on 5 October 2026, Geyser loaded on Paper 26.2 and Fabric 26.2 and failed to load on Paper 26.3. The oldest versions the bridge accepts are 1.20.5 on Paper and 1.20.4 on Fabric.
3. **Open the Server tab**, go to its network section and turn on **Allow Bedrock players**. The card reads "It applies on the next start of the server", so restart it.
4. **Copy the Bedrock port.** After the start, the card says "Geyser and Floodgate. Bedrock players join on port" followed by the number.

On the Free plan, choose 26.2 when you create the server. Changing the version later goes through the version assistant, which takes a backup first, and Free keeps no backups, so the change is blocked there.

When the switch is locked, the card explains why:

| Refusal | What the panel says | Fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Template | "Crossplay needs the Paper or Fabric template. Vanilla and Forge cannot load Geyser…" | Use a Paper or Fabric server |
| Version | "Geyser supports Minecraft Java up to 26.2, and this loader has no Geyser build for older versions either…" | Run 26.2, or a version above the floor |
| Modpack | "Crossplay is not available while a modpack runs on this server." | Remove the modpack |

We do not add ViaVersion. Our test on Paper 26.3 still failed with ViaVersion and ViaBackwards loaded, because Geyser itself crashed while enabling on the 26.3 server, so the panel waits for a Geyser release that lists the new version.

### On your own server

1. **Paper:** put Geyser-Spigot and Floodgate-Spigot from the [GeyserMC downloads](https://geysermc.org/download/) in `plugins`. **Fabric:** put Geyser, Floodgate and [Fabric API](https://modrinth.com/mod/fabric-api) in `mods`; the [Floodgate modded setup](https://geysermc.org/wiki/floodgate/setup/modded/) says Fabric servers need it.
2. **Start the server once** so both write their config files.
3. **Auth type.** The [Floodgate setup guide](https://geysermc.org/wiki/floodgate/setup/paper-spigot/) tells you to set `auth-type` to `floodgate` in Geyser's config and restart. Geyser's own [source code](https://github.com/GeyserMC/Geyser/blob/master/core/src/main/java/org/geysermc/geyser/GeyserImpl.java) switches to Floodgate authentication by itself when it finds Floodgate on the same server, but setting it costs nothing.

## 3. Ports

Bedrock does not use the Java port 25565. Geyser listens on its own port, 19132 by default, and the setup page is clear: "Since Minecraft: Bedrock Edition uses UDP, this port must allow UDP traffic." At home, forward 19132 over UDP on the router and open it in the firewall.

On 1up you forward nothing. When the bridge is on, the server gets a second, UDP port next to the Java one. It is not 19132, so always copy it from the panel:

- the bridge card in the network section of the **Server** tab, once the server has started with the bridge on;
- the invite card in the **Players** tab and your server's join page, where the row **Bedrock (mobile / Windows)** reads "Servers → Add Server → address, port" with your values filled in.

On a phone, tablet or Windows PC, the player opens **Play**, then **Servers**, then **Add Server**, and types the address and that port. Their Bedrock game must be a version Geyser supports, from 26.30 to 26.52 on the day we checked.

Consoles are the hard limit. Mojang's [help center](https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4410316619533) says: "If you play Minecraft on a computer or mobile device, you can modify your server list. Console versions of Minecraft are limited to the featured servers." Xbox, PlayStation and Switch players cannot type your address, with or without Geyser. Our [console guide](https://1up-servers.com/en/blog/join-minecraft-server-ps5-switch-xbox/) explains what console players can do instead.

## 4. Floodgate: names, whitelist and linking

Floodgate renames Bedrock players so they never clash with Java accounts. Its default [config.yml](https://github.com/GeyserMC/Floodgate/blob/master/core/src/main/resources/config.yml) ships `username-prefix: "."` and `replace-spaces: true`, so the gamertag `Gamer Tag` plays as `.Gamer_Tag` on your server. That is the name you see in chat, the player list and the logs.

The normal whitelist does not know Bedrock players, so Floodgate brings its own command. Its [features page](https://geysermc.org/wiki/floodgate/features/) gives `fwhitelist add Tim203` and `fwhitelist remove Tim203`, and adds that "the username prefix doesn't need to be included".

On 1up you do not type it. In the **Players** tab, with **Whitelist on**, the panel shows: "Bedrock players through the bridge: type a dot before the gamertag, like .Gamer Tag. Floodgate adds them as .Gamer_Tag." Type the dot, the gamertag with its spaces, and add. The panel sends `fwhitelist add` for you. If you protect the server with a password, the join page asks Bedrock players for "a dot and then your gamertag". Floodgate looks the gamertag up through GeyserMC's Global API, and its answer shows up in the **Console** tab, so check there if a name does not stick.

Players who own both editions can merge them. Floodgate's [linking page](https://geysermc.org/wiki/floodgate/linking/) says Global Linking "should be enabled by default on every server running Floodgate 2.0": the player joins `link.geysermc.org` with both accounts, runs `/linkaccount` on one and enters the code on the other.

Checked on 2026-10-06 against the GeyserMC wiki, the Floodgate default config and Mojang's help center. Tested on Minecraft: Java Edition 26.2 Paper and 26.2 Fabric with Geyser and Floodgate (1up image itzg/minecraft-server java25, sha256:afce674a), run locally with the production settings, 2026-10-05: Geyser started on UDP port 19132 on both. We have not yet joined from a Bedrock client through the bridge on our servers, so the join itself is not tested by us.

**Change log**

- 2026-10-06: first version, for Geyser's support of Java 26.2 and Bedrock 26.30 to 26.52.
- 2026-10-26: the Bedrock switch and port now live in the network section of the Server tab.

## Frequently asked questions

Geyser translates between Bedrock and Java so a Bedrock client can join a Java server. Floodgate lets those Bedrock players in without a paid Java account. You install both on the Java server.
