A Dragonwilds dedicated server keeps your world running when the host logs off, so up to six friends can gather, build and train skills on their own schedule. This guide covers Jagex's dedicated server, running it on our [RuneScape: Dragonwilds server hosting](https://1up-servers.com/en/runescape-dragonwilds/), the Player ID it needs, how friends find the world and who gets admin rights.

- **What it is:** Jagex's free **RuneScape: Dragonwilds Dedicated Server**, Steam app 4019830, for Windows and Linux.
- **The one thing it needs:** your Dragonwilds **Player ID**. The server does not start without it, and that player becomes the owner.
- **Players:** up to 6, on PC and consoles: crossplay is on by default. Jagex asks for 2 GB of RAM plus 1 GB per player.
- **On 1up:** the server runs on Free with the hourglass at ×2, and 24/7 from Starter. Friends find it by name in the world browser or with the join code the panel shows.

## 1. Self-host or hosting?

Without a dedicated server, the world lives on the host's PC. Jagex's [dedicated server how-to](https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1374490/view/1828441623110277) lays out three routes: its hosting partner, a computer at home, or a cloud machine you set up yourself.

At home, Jagex lists what you need:

1. A 64-bit Windows or Linux machine with 2 GB of RAM plus 1 GB per player: 4 GB for two players, 8 GB for six.
2. The server from Steam, or SteamCMD with `+login anonymous +app_update 4019830 +quit`.
3. UDP port 7777 forwarded through your firewall, every router and your ISP. Jagex warns that some ISPs block port forwarding altogether.
4. `DedicatedServer.ini` filled in with your Owner ID, the server name, the default world name and an admin password, edited only while the server is stopped.

A hosted server skips the ports and the file: the panel writes the settings and keeps the server online.

## 2. Create a Dragonwilds server on 1up

1. In Dragonwilds, open **Settings**, scroll to the very bottom and copy your **Player ID** with the copy button.
2. On 1up, create an account and press **Create server**.
3. Choose **RuneScape: Dragonwilds**. On Free it runs with the hourglass at ×2 (your free time drains twice as fast); Starter and up keep it online 24/7.
4. Paste your Player ID, and set a server password if only your friends should get in.
5. Pick a region, London or Paris, and create the server. The first start downloads about 2 GB; the world is ready in under a minute after that.

The server installs the newest build from Steam at every start. Jagex is clear that the game and the server must run the same version, so restart the server after each patch.

## 3. The panel settings

Four settings sit in the **Game** tab. They are written to `DedicatedServer.ini` and apply on restart, because the game rewrites that file while it runs.

| Setting | Key | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Owner Player ID** | `OwnerId` | Your Player ID, 32 letters and digits. Required. |
| **Server password** | `WorldPassword` | Asked when a player joins. Overrides any password saved in the world. Empty means an open world. |
| **Crossplay (every platform)** | `PlatformPolicy` | On by default: console players join alongside PC players. Off limits the server to PC. |
| **Admin password** | `AdminPassword` | Anyone who types it in game becomes an admin. Starts as a random secret nobody sees. |

The server name you chose when creating the server is also the name of its world, and that is the name players search for.

## 4. How friends join

**By name.** Jagex's how-to: open the **Worlds** screen, go to the **Public** tab and type the exact world name in the search. It is case sensitive (patch 1.0.0.5 added a tooltip saying so). After a few seconds the world appears.

**By join code.** The 1.0 release added invite codes, which players enter in the world browser. Our **Overview** shows the current join code once the server is online. It changes at every start, so share the new one after a restart.

If the world does not show up, Jagex's checklist applies: the game and the server must be on the same version, the name must match exactly, and the server log must show that it started. A restart on 1up pulls the latest build.

Jagex lists one known issue: Steam invites do not take players to a dedicated server. Use the name or the code.

## 5. Owner, admins and bans

Dragonwilds has no remote console, so moderation happens inside the game, in **Pause**, **Settings**, **Server Management**. Jagex defines three kinds of user:

- **Owner:** the player whose Player ID matches **Owner Player ID**. Can ban and unban anyone, online or offline.
- **Admin:** anyone who typed the admin password on the Server Management page. Can ban regular players who are online, and cannot unban.
- **Everyone else.**

The admin password starts as a random secret, so nobody is an admin until you set your own in the **Game** tab and share it. Jagex notes that someone stays an admin until the password changes, and that the config file lists who has used it.

## 6. Move your world and keep backups

When it starts, the server loads the newest `.sav` file in `RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames`. With no save there, it creates a Standard world. To bring the world you already play, Jagex's steps translate to 1up like this:

1. Stop the server and take a backup in the **Backups** tab.
2. On your PC, find your world in `C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames`.
3. In **Files**, open `RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames`, move the old saves out of the way and upload your `.sav` file.
4. Start the server.

The same route gives you a world with custom settings: create it in your own game (Standard, Custom, Creative), enter it once, exit, then upload the save.

The server saves on the game's own timer. Give it a few minutes after a big build before you stop it. Starter keeps 3 backups, Pro 5 and Studio 10.

## 7. Limits worth knowing

- **Crossplay is on by default.** Jagex added crossplay for dedicated servers in 1.0, and the server runs in crossplay mode unless told otherwise. Ours is, so players on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Jagex Launcher), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 can share the world. To keep the server PC-only, turn off **Crossplay (every platform)** in the **Game** tab; it applies on restart.
- **No remote console.** Moderation is in game, as above.
- **Six players at most.** That is Jagex's limit for dedicated servers. Jagex also notes that its damage and health scaling caps at four players, so six may feel different.

For the RAM, our server starts at 4 GB and a full group of six is comfortable on 8 GB, in line with Jagex's 2 GB plus 1 GB per player. With prices from [our pricing page](https://1up-servers.com/en/pricing/), Starter (€5/month) gives 4 GB of RAM, 20 GB of disk and 3 backups, enough for two players; Pro (€10/month) gives 8 GB, 60 GB and 5 backups, enough for a full group of six.
